Candles are incredibly versatile objects with various uses, including providing light, setting the mood, creating ambience, and enhancing decor. They bring a unique atmosphere to any space, which can't be easily replicated with electric lighting.

When you enter a home decor store, you'll notice that candles come in a wide range of colours, shapes, and sizes. Understanding the purpose of a candle, whether it's for fragrance or illumination, is crucial when making a selection.

You may get some idea about the different types of candles available, as described below.

Tea Light Candles: These are small, inexpensive candles often placed in metal or polycarbonate containers. They are commonly used to create ambience rather than provide long-lasting light.

Container Candles: These candles are poured directly into containers, such as glass, metal, or ceramic. Container candles are versatile and can be used for lighting, decor, aromatherapy, meditation, and more. They can be made from various waxes like paraffin, soy, palm, coconut, or beeswax.

Votive Candles: Votive candles are placed into holders for burning. They are made in molds and are designed to easily release from the mold. These candles can be used for decor, lighting, and meditation, among other purposes. Popular votive candle waxes include paraffin, soy, beeswax, palm, and blends of each.

Pillar Candles: Pillar candles are stand-alone candles without containers. They must be able to stand on their own while burning, so they require a hard wax. Pillar candles are used for decor, lighting, aromatherapy, meditation, and more. Common waxes for pillar candles include paraffin, beeswax, palm, and blends.

Wax Tarts/Melts: Wax tarts or melts are used with diffusers to spread fragrance without burning the wax itself. They are suitable for electric diffusers, candle diffusers, or candle lamps powered by tea light candles.

Wax Sachets: These are aromatic wax sachets without a wick, meaning they are not lit. They serve as air fresheners and are often decorated with dry embeds.

Taper Candles: Taper candles are tall, slim, and elegant candles that require candle holders or candelabras because they can't stand on their own. They are used in romantic dinners and formal gatherings.

Gel Candles: Gel candles are typically housed in glass jars, with the height of the container determining the candle's height. They are translucent, allowing light to pass through, making them ideal for decor. However, they release more heat, so it's recommended not to burn them for extended periods.

Each type of candle serves specific purposes and can be chosen based on your desired ambience and function.
